FIFA has set up a special qualifying procedure for teams interested in playing in the World Cup 2022. The process is split into two parts: one that determines which teams are eligible to play in Qatar, and another to determine which teams will go there

Argentina

The Argentine team is one of the most successful sides in the history of the World Cup. The team is currently ranked second in the FIFA World Rankings and qualified for the tournament automatically as the host.

Australia

Australia is one of the few teams that has qualified for every single World Cup. The team is currently ranked 18th in the FIFA World Rankings and qualified for the tournament automatically as the host.

France has won the World Cup a total of two times. Their last win was when they hosted the tournament in 1998. They’ve applied to host the World Cup 2022 and Qatar 2022. 

Germany

Germany has won the World Cup a total of four times. Their last win was in 2014 when they hosted the tournament. Germany has also hosted one tournament. 

Ghana

Ghana has only participated in two World Cups, both of which were in 2010. They’ve applied to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, but not the 2026 World Cup. 

Iran

Iran has participated in five World Cups and has made it out of the group stage in three out of the five instances. They’ve applied to host the FIFA World Cup 2022 and have a good reputation for fan conduct.

Japan

Japan has participated in eight World Cups and has made it out of the group stage in four out of the eight instances. They’ve applied to host the FIFA World Cup 2022 and also applied to play in Qatar.

Mexico

Mexico has participated in 16 World Cups and has made it out of the group stage in 15 out of the 16 instances. They’ve also hosted one tournament. 

Morocco

Morocco has applied to host the 2022 World Cup and has a good reputation for fan conduct. They have a strong soccer culture and have a good infrastructure.

Netherlands

The Netherlands will be one of the favourites to win the World Cup 2022. They were runners-up in 2010, but they’re a team that’s long been among the best in the world. 

Poland

South Korea

South Korea is another Asian team that’s gotten a chance to play at the World Cup 2022. They were favourites to advance out of the Asian qualifying group, but they finished behind Uzbekistan.

Spain is one of the most decorated teams in world football. They’re the current reigning world champions and have been a frequent presence in the top 10 on the FIFA rankings. 

Switzerland

Switzerland is a team that’s mostly known for their incredible success at the youth level. They’re a team that’s expected to be a contender in FIFA World Cup 2022.

Tunisia
